Beats, Breaks and Culture @ Harborfront
6 Jul 2008The past 2 days was a whirlwind of music, parties and dancing. Yesterday (the 4th) was Ladytron and tonight was Thunderheist and then Crystal Castles. All 3 FREE performances blew me out of the park: Ladytron had the trippy beat, Thunderheist had the dope rhymes and Cryastal Castles had the rhythym and effects.
So Friday the 4th was the Ladytron concert on Harbourfront’s Sirius stage. A bunch of us arrived to a massive crowd with a lot of energy. First of all, making our way to the front was an ordeal, but wearing heels and smiling nicely made it easier.
The way Mira and Helen moved together was amazing! They were so in-tune with each other. They swayed, danced and head-bopped on the exact same beat. I`d also like to note that other than the lead girls it was mega-hard to photograph any of the other band members, so here`s a pic of the two leading ladies.

The entire audience was hypnotized as they sang “Seventeen” (see the youtube video below), and few audience members didn`t sing along (and by few I mean the 60-something hippie couples who took up valuable viewing space watching a band they knew nothing about).
Tonight (Saturday the 5th) was the Thunderheist and Crystal Castles performances. When we arrived at the stage, it was packed for back to back bomb performances.
Thunderheist slammed the fu*king stage with their powerful presence and booty-shaking beats. The dynamic duo struck and left a mark. Isis built up the crowd with her rap as Grahm Zilla built up her back beat. Grahm and Isis have much more in-store for us with their much anticipated, debut album `Reverse Technology` and we can`t wait for more from these talented two (btw did I mention their dancers..Wow):

Check out their video for Little Booty Girl
Crystal Castles were amazing too, and their popularity and musical skills made everyone stand on top of the benches just for a chance to get a glimpse of Alice Glass (which was basically was impossible, unless you were literally at the front of the stage). Aside from multiple body shakes and head bounces, Alice was a moving strobe light at the front of the stage:

The video below is a perfect illustration of the performance: chaotic and crazy…but in a good way.
Final Vedict: Harbourfront`s Beats Breaks and Culture definately kicks its summer camp`s ass.
Also check out the Get Er Done T I rocked all weekend (be jealous of it…very jealous):
