20 Questions with Cadence Weapon

20 Questions with Cadence Weapon

Cadence Weapon is performing at Lee’s Palace on Thursday (check out facebook )and so we decided we’d do a little 20Qs with the man. He’s a musical jack-of-all trades (he writes, raps, remixes etc) and we can’t wait for you to read his answers. I was going to make a bad “put your hands up” weapon/cop joke, but I’ll let you do that yourself in the comfort of your own home. But it’s the messages that matter. Check this out for the AOL exclusively streaming the new mixtape, Separation Anxiety and check out the new video, Real Estate, here.

1. What is your dream of happiness?
Being comfortable. Creating a culturally significant document.

2. Blonde or Brunette?
Hate to say this in the presence of one of the top blondes in the game, Anna Von Frances, but I roll for brunettes in a major way.

3. What is the quality you like most in a woman?
Idiosyncrasy.

4. What do you fear most?
Large crowds, heights and death.

5. 808s or 909s?
808s!!!!!! From now into eternity…

6. What’s your biggest regret?
I have no regrets and never will.

7. What’s your fave bar or club in the world?
Fabric in London. Bass in the floor, angular tables, unbelievable sound and lighting. As close as I will ever get to playing at the Hacienda.

8. What’s the one thing you can’t you live with out?
Music or if it’s an object, my iPod.

9. What are the 3 musicians dead or alive you’d like to see perform?
Bob Dylan, Prince, David Bowie

10. What is your favorite decade in music?
70s, by far. It was a period of social freedom that allowed for musical experimentation in every field. The post-Beatles environment allowed for some seriously dope ideas. It’s probably the only period of time where every level of music had something good or groundbreaking going on.

11. If you had to choose, would you rather go blind or deaf and why?
I’ve thought about this a lot. The cross section for me is do I like seeing naked women more than listening to music. I had to go with blind on this one, based on the Ray Charles principle. I listen to music probably 90% of the day. Ray was blind but he could still jam beats and he was also getting laid regardless of whether he could run hurdles or whatever. So blind it is.

12. How old is too old?
However old it is when you have to shit in a bag, live in a home or get kept alive by a machine. I find that unappealing.

13. Where did you see yourself in 15 years?
Producing for Coldplay.

14. Who’s your hero?
David Bowie. He’s a guy who experimented in every possible way, constantly reinventing himself and his music, while maintaining respect and a consistently good body of work.

15. What’s your favourite colour?
I had a deep conversation about this last night in Montreal, I’m going with blue. Blue doesn’t have to be a sad colour. Blue is like when you listen to a sad song to make yourself feel better about a break-up. Blue is also a strong, regal colour. Royal blue is serious shit.

16. What song could you live without ever hearing again?
There’s a lot of them. I’d say any elevator music. It’s kinda like
music without all the good parts in it.

17. Metallica or Madonna?
Madonna. To quote Pitman, she’s still worth one after all these years.

18. What’s your most hated vice?
Shitty food. I get drunk and can’t resist eating poorly. I’m seriously trying to work on this.

19. Who is the most tragic figure in history?
Historically, maybe Nicholas II of Russia. But currently, I’d say D’Angelo on The Wire.

20. What are the top three live shows you’ve seen in your life?
These are the shows that stand out in my mind in recent years:
The Roots, Toronto, Rogers Picnic 2007
Daft Punk, Toronto, Arrow Hall, 2007
The Juan Maclean, Barcelona, Summercase 2008
