If UK fashion is what you want, throw on a blasted Peacoat and dance with Jack Savidge. Last night, XL Recordings‘ proper Friendly Fires dropped in on Queen West to give WrongKids a taste of what is good across the pond. Doused in John Paul Gaultier and Venician Lace liqueur, their ducks were in a row. Fresh. Perhaps it is Ed’s ego; Perhaps it is Jack’s soul; either way Friendly Fires love Toronto and will continue to serve us, invited or not.

Jack, the adorable one, clearly knows what he’s doing on stacks. Kids rattled from the start but when the bass finally dropped 40 minutes into his set, the shift was third to fifth. Like a J.D Salinger novel, it was unexpectedly pleasant and way overdue.

The ravenous “New Yorkers” wept,  showing up wanting the Elliott School Cats and forced to love the St. Albans kids.  In a sharp and fancy way, the Young Turks were fully represented and the music was energetic and crazy and completely demanding.   Dancers wondering through the bumbleberry bush with a plum in one hand and the Queens crown in the other. Why anyone complained will forever be a mystery.

The Storm was unreal.  The envelope was undoubtedly pushed. Sweden and Denmark left early. And Cedric sang. It was an exemplary test of who can handle themselves in public and who should never leave their room. Wrapped in a diamond embellished veil and crimson coat, it was the most magical event in the city.

About the Author

Kay

Kay Laser or Kay Vandertramp as she sometimes goes by, uses a lot of big words and loves live, REAL, music. She submitted her own bio but we couldn't decipher it. What we can say is that she's very poetic and has an alternative voice. We can also tell you she's mad cool, we're glad to have her on the team and her interview with A-Trak hit it out of the park. - Kate Snack
