Tour Dream Diary: Edmonton

DSC_0022

Last night I slept in a hotel room in Edmonton, Alberta. I woke up at 11:18 am and quickly jotted these notes down.

___

There are a three of us at my moms apartment, we’re looking to a few have drinks but when I reach into the refrigerator for water, my friend Jeremy, who offers to fill it back up, jokingly does so, but with Grand Marnier. I’m furious. When I attempt to clean it in the sink, I discover that the Brita filter is filled with coffee beans and scraps of food.

I go into my closet and I’m searching for a t-shirt. I’m wearing green shorts and a stretched out orange top. I don’t like my outfit but everyone is calling for me to hurry up. I’m anxious so I just leave the outfit on.

We sit on my front steps watching people pass by on the street. The bars across the road are drag bars and all the patrons seems to know me. I ask my friend if he had fun at the party, he shows me a Polaroid picture of people with smeared make up lying on the street laughing, dresses pulled up above their waists. He also tells me my mom “knocked over a bunch of sitars”.

Earlier in the night I dream that my bed has “wood bugs”. The bugs look translucent and have the shape of a mosquito. Once the bugs find wood they turn into a screw shape. (I realize that description sounds like a dirty joke that an old man or a scientist would tell, but its a true description of the bug from my dream!)

The wood bugs have infested the hotel room. I’m trying to find a book or shoe to squish them with. I don’t want to ruin any of my books, plus the wood bugs have transformed into their screw like shape and I am on the phone trying to reach an exterminator.  I’m worried that we will end up with wood bugs in our luggage. We have magnifying glasses out and we flip over the beds and desks to check all the wood legs.

__

The only other note I made was from the middle of the night and none of it jogged my dream memory bank. But here is the exact note i took:

” W/ a friend. She has a car parked. Banff. Photos w/ snakes. Sunny missing girls”.

this is awesome and hilarious haha!

JJJF  13 Jan 2010

The note at the end killed me. BANFFFFF.

J-Bird  13 Jan 2010

well..i would comment on the dream but currently, the picture of the week from 1992 in the right hand corner BESIDE said dream description has made me realize i will have nightmares tonight.

*stares blankly*

maybe the fact that your bed, bed post, etc is made of what looks to be awesome wood contributed to your wood bug fascination. Or maybe I just need a v-8. no. coffee..no. v-8. um…nevermind. Snarf.

mel  13 Jan 2010

Damn it. I think I’m a dirty old scientist man trapped in a 24-year old female’s body.

p.s. I think it’s best the last note did not jog any memories – it sounds like something out of a Patricia Cornwell novel, freaky.

MIchelle  13 Jan 2010

The “wood bugs” sound like something from the movie “Bugs”
Super scary!

jess  13 Jan 2010

i’m sorry but i got distracted by the picture too.

nice dream btw. can you please have a sexier one next time.

vOlk nOir  13 Jan 2010

every time my mom travels she packs her own sheets cause she doesn’t trust hotels, always thinking bugs will come out of the bed, i make fun of her all the time, nevertheless, i did the same when i went to vancouver and stayed at hostel in main St. ( i had reasons wont u think?!! yuk)
Anyway, sleeping in a hotel room always makes me a bit unconfortable and even thou u have to do that a lot while touring i still think you’re not used to it, so it makes u uneasy. Obviously is not the same than sleeping in your own bed and surroundings, so yeah unconsciously you were perhaps thinking of bed bugs before falling asleep ( even thou that hotel room looks pretty neat) . Plus i bet you like order and keeping everything clean, even the outfit you were wearing made u feel out of place.

i think this blog can be very therapeutic for you and a very interesting read.

And this proofs my believe that if you ever consider another profession that should be writing.
(please don’t thou…i like your music)

Bia  13 Jan 2010

sara in shorts.. that’s hot

Amanda  13 Jan 2010

lol oh wow, dreams are pretty hilarious if you can remember them. Sunny missing girls? lol

shelby  13 Jan 2010

Hilarious. I’ve had weird dreams but I think that one trumps all.

I’m going to the show tomorrow in Saskatoon. Can’t wait to hear you guys.

St. Kitty  13 Jan 2010

heh. don’t knock on wood.

kmandrsn  13 Jan 2010

You’re a genius!

- I guess I already knew that..

Heather  13 Jan 2010

I am NOT a dream analysis but…dreams are so funny, weird and ironic all in one…they are in fact windows to enlightenment. In some way, shape or form, every piece of your dream is a metaphor for some piece of your life. Wood bugs and all : )

E. M.  13 Jan 2010

Dear Sara,

There is so much Freudian shit in this dream. But, such are dreams. I also sense an OCD-esque preoccupation with cleanliness (denoting order, control, purity, saintliness), eh?

sincerely, your clinically minded fan.

Talia  13 Jan 2010

this is hilarious. i just laughed really hard and then read it to someone and they stared blankly at me. i think you just need to get sara

Kelsey  13 Jan 2010

extensively studying dream interpretation, id have to tell you there is far too much to say based on the extensive description you gave of the multiple dream sequences. But i will say, although I dont completely agree with all of the concepts he shared, Freud would have a lot to say about male symbolism in many places through the excerpt. something to think about as you reread the dream description…

vOlk noir  13 Jan 2010

oh that’s awesome..you deleted my comment.
thanks a lot!

sarah d  13 Jan 2010

I had a dream abt bed bugs, and eventually in my dream they ended up in my car.

Carrie  13 Jan 2010

I love blogs. I love dreams, especially hearing others recounting them. I love Tegan and Sara. Therefore, this pleases me greatly.

The other night, I had a dream that I wrote you guys an email (or some other online message somehow) extending an invitation to come to my house for dinner. You did one better, and came and stayed as guests at my house for a night. Except the house in my dream wasn’t actually my house. I had some weird loft with mattresses on the floor and that’s where you and Tegan stayed. Basically we all hung out for two days, became great friends, and it was pretty fantastic.

Ainsley  13 Jan 2010

I try and picture Sara in shorts. I can’t even imagine it. I bet she would rock shorts

Yep, the image of Sara in shorts is not a bad image at all! I love hearing about other people’s dreams. But hearing about Sara’s is EVEN better!! Thanks Sa-sa! xx

Shannon Dempsey  13 Jan 2010

Thats funny…I wonder what dreams mean?I had a dream once that i was going on a date with a robot dog…he was missing a leg though so i had to hurry and find him a replacement leg, or else we couldnt go on the date…Seriously. Extremely weird.

Jen-P  13 Jan 2010

Damn. Girl has some crazy dreams. I wouldn’t have energy for the day if my brain worked that hard at night! More power to ya Quin!

Sarah  13 Jan 2010

I love crazy dreams. ^_^

Maria  13 Jan 2010

Clothing
1. Dreaming of wearing clothes that are totally inappropriate – such as wearing a bathing suit on the ski slopes – indicates circumstances in your life that require a reality check before you can move ahead. If in the dream you change your clothes, you’ll be successful.
2. A dream of being naked in public is a very common type of dream, and usually means that the dreamer feels exposed, vulnerable and at the mercy of others.
3. Dressing yourself, especially if in fashionable clothes, indicates advancement socially and professionally. Undressing, however, indicates temporary setbacks.
4. Dirty, soiled, or worn clothing is a warning not to take anyone’s word for anything. Get the facts yourself.
5. Tight or otherwise uncomfortable clothing hints at being involved in a prickly situation or that some situation in your life is making you uncomfortable, and you need to make some adjustments.

based on the two dreams i’d say she’s having some anxiety!

Cat  13 Jan 2010

You should look up these dreams in a dream book or on some dream website. Sounds like you have alot of anxiety, but who am I to say? lol. Can’t wait to see the 2 of you in Dallas in Feb!

Julie  13 Jan 2010

God, these crack me up. Especially the note about “Sunny missing girls”. I wonder.. Is “Sunny” missing girls? Or are the girls sunny in appearance and just melancholy? Or is Sara sitting outside somewhere where it’s sunny and missing girls. Multiple ones.

H  14 Jan 2010

“I ask my friend if he had fun at the party, he shows me a Polaroid picture of people with smeared make up lying on the street laughing, dresses pulled up above their waists. He also tells me my mom ‘knocked over a bunch of sitars’.”

That’s my favorite part. I love how “knocked over a bunch of sitars” is in quotes. Sitars. Wow.

Mika!  16 Jan 2010

I just saw you guys in edmonton on tuesday. it melted my heart. you are both my role models. i hope you’re both having a great time & i enjoyed reading this!!!
your biggest fan, Mika

I heard that if a person sleeps on their right side, they tend to have more creative dreams. If they lie on their left, they will get more action-packed dreams. It has to do with the blood flow on the left/right side of the brain..

This definitely sounds like the right side of the brain was being used. :)

detwin  14 Feb 2010

Just out of curiosity, what side of the bed does Tegan sleep on? I’m sorry I know its one of those silly twin questions ya get all the time!! I’m a twin myself and my sister sleeps on the left side and I sleep on the right side. Just wondering! Man this just sounds weird! While I’m on a roll with the twin questions, Have you ever had the same dream as Tegan? I know riveting questions! SORRY!!
