Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara is writing a Tour Diary for Pink mafia on her trek across the great white north. The entire Tour Diary is based on the gnarly and hilarious dreams she has every night. Read. Enjoy.

Tour Dream Diary: Toronto

Tegan and I are at a street fair. There are magicians performing and we stop to watch a man who is shooting arrows that are weightless and hovering in the air above our heads. Another man is doing tricks with a small white sheet. The sheet keeps taking the form of a ghost. It also appears to be floating. People on the street are applauding.

Johnny, our bands drummer, is  trying to sort through a very complicated Indian food menu. We are responsible for ordering enough supper for the entire band and crew. Neither of us can read the menu, the words are very small and it all appears to be in French.

Damon and Kate, from AN HORSE, are upset because someone has leaked their cell phone numbers on the internet. They are both receiving threatening messages. They keep showing me their cell phone screens but I don’t seem to be able to read the messages. Damon shows me a folded note from his pocket. its a long list of things to order at the coffee shop. I take the note and collect coffees and pastries. He specifically has request almond croissants.

The last dream I have in the morning is that I am dating an actress on a television show. She has gray hair and she seems to only speak French. She is much taller than I am and we are having an argument in a mall. She rushes off to get back to set and I keep hearing my name over the mall PA system.

The last note I made when I woke up in the morning said ” Group shower, bathing suit”. It doesn’t jog my memory further.

    Group shower? Bathing suit? That’s a bit strange haha but I like the fact that Damon specifically requested almond croissants.

    Feeling responsible for the Indian food and for safety of support act- but unable to decipher the letters/messages = anxiety about heavy responsibilities?

    dating a gray haired woman that only speaks French and is an actress? hmmmm…

    I think the start of the live performances is causing anxiety about various responsibilities and feeling her need to follow through- but the dream shows no gratification.

    The actress part is simple. She’s single and looking for someone her age or younger that doesn’t play games (like acting-as actresses do- or calling a name over a PA) and communicates fairly openly (like in English).

    To relieve the anxiety she’s just gonna have to put herself in that vulnerable position of taking a group shower with everyone on the tour bus.

    Well, the sheets in your what looks to be hugeongous (oh yeah i said it..huge-on-gous:-) bed could have something to do with the man doing tricks with white sheets. Maybe you want smaller sheets. Almond croissants? That’s a new one. Maybe you’re in a rush to please everyone, even down to getting the right food. The right PARTICULAR food. People keep comin’ to you for everything..menus, food, cell phones, etc. And maybe you just dig tall ladies. And in trying to please her, you get in an argument. Which means…you can’t please everyone. And if you fail, arrows will drop on yer heads.

    And now I am in dire need of chicken biryani.

    Really cool dream, the allusions to th fair reminds me the new CD, and is quite funny how french has a main role in the dreams. What a shame that the rest of the dream isn’t clear, the last notes really make me wonder what happen next…

    I also like the sheet that forms into a ghost.

    I woke up today from a very strange dream, I had gone to France with friends. I spent most of my time running up a steep dirt road, chasing a train. And on a western set… hahaha. Anyways, the dream ended after being bucked several times by a, doe, a deer, a female deer. Lol.
    After going back to sleep I had another strange dream, my friends and I were on a playground that was built very high from the ground. I had headphones in my ears in the dream, your song “Clever Meals” was playing, and I ripped them out because I couldn’t hear what my friend was saying. But the music was still very loud and I still couldn’t hear her. Because I was distracted, I almost fell from the top of the playground, but landed on a slide. When I woke up, your music was playing through my speakers =].

    I’m gonna be honest and say I’m finding these dreams kinda distressing! When I studied Surrealist artists at Uni, I remember that Freud said the exact symbols in dreams (ie- almond croissant) are only applicable to the person themself, say Sara was eating an almond croissant when someone broke up with her then the fact that she was specifically meant to get one in her dream would mean she is upset? Haha dreams are so random. The other night I had a dream that a bird was plucking my eyebrows and telling me that it wanted to go outside… very random.

    I wanna hear more about what Sara was feeling in her dreams! Happy, sad? Haha :P

    :-) what a dream, especially for all the French speaking…is it because you’re coming in Québec city on monday? CAN’T WAIT TIL’ MONDAY, MONDAY, MONDAY!! I’ve dreamed that I yelled your name so loudly during the show that you looked at me and then you smiled, thinking ”That girl is crazy”!

    Communication problems are scattered throughout this dream. Sounds like Sara’s stressing. That last note is hysterical though.
