A Sad Day in Fashion RIP Alexander McQueen
Take a look through your closest because today some of your favourite pieces have become indispensable. At the age of 40 Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London home this morning.
At this time his death has been confirmed by his office, βIt is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.β

Personally, it was young talent like McQueen that lead me to FIT in 1997 to pursue fashion.
Before seeing him burst onto the scene in the mid-90s and still in school himself, I thought that the only people who made it in Fashion were rich Europeans. McQueen was the first true artist i’d ever seen who’d come from such humble beginnings; his father was a taxi driver after all. And he made no apologies for himself on or off the runway.
Knowing now that someone i’d admired as almost indestructible in his resolve to carve out his own niche was so torn apart by his mother’s passing that he would take his own life, literally stopped me in my tracks this morning.

McQueen shook up an aging and tired fashion industry in the 90s when he was discovered by ultimate tastemaker and eccentric, Isabella Blow (eerily Blow took her own life in 2007) when he was still in school. He has won British Designer Of The Year 4 times and has been called everything from “hooligan” to “enfant terrible” by the fashion world at large.
Our sources say that he couldn’t handle the death of his mother who passed away less than a month ago, on February 2nd and last night took his own life.
Today we lost a fantastic talent, a ground-breaking visionary with a boundless imagination and endless guts in the pursuit of his own heart’s desire. He will truly be missed.
Our thoughts are with the McQueen family and friends during this tragedy.
