The Glitch Mob @ Wrongbar – May 4, 2010
The Glitch Mob have been touring North America to promote their new album, “Drink the Sea” coming out on May 25, 2010 — I was surprisingly shocked to see how little people had turned out for the Glitch Mob show at Wrongbar. I had originally become tuned into their sound and what they were doing when I got to see them live and they tore up the stage at the Movement Festival in Detroit in 2009. With their mix of glitch, dubstep and other genres. I had been really excited for this show and thought there would be a good following in Toronto considering how large our dubstep scene is. But obviously, I thought wrong.

This 3-piece duo brings something a little unique to the table. With their combination of drum machine, synthesizers, live bass and guitar – it’s almost as if you’re going to see a live band. However what you’re getting some dirty bass and some glitchy twitchy tunes. Glitch Mob went on a little earlier than expected (11PM start time, granted it was a Tuesday evening) and played for just over an hour. The set had its epic highs making you reach some peaks that made you want to break ish and breakdown. While they went through a good majority of their catologue, attempting to catering to fans new and old, the lows they reached in their sets came when they played some newer material. With the title, “Drink the Sea” you can only imagine what the tracks sounded like. Like slowed down glitchy dub tracks where I swear I saw a 40 year old sweaty dancing at the front of the stage. I was not a fan. I even think a friend of mine yelled that she hated it. Yeah, Toronto is kind of rough.
All in all though, the set itself though was good. I mean, I’m still going to have to say that the time I saw them in Detroit was better. However, I think these San Francisco dudes came into Toronto to show Toronto the glitch side of things. Its just too bad Toronto didn’t have more heads who were familiar.
