PowerBallin’- The Ball That Started it All!

PowerBallin’- The Ball That Started it All!

7 Jun 2010

Last minute as always I find out I’m rolling to pretty much the most sought after ticket in the fundraiser circuit , the Power Plant’s 12th Annual Power Ball fundraising gala!! This year, the theme was a blast from the past, Power Ball: The Ball that Started it All. The theme is over-the-top under the big top a carnivalesque, sporting a combination of art, music, and culture which we all know will be filled with spectacular surprises. Let’s call it a lil Power Ball remix “the best of the best from Power Ball’s glorious and notorious past”.

HISTORY

The Power Plant opened to the public in 1987, and made the transition from old trucking  to the 1920′s renovated powerhouse. And now is Canada’s leading public gallery devoted exclusively to the art of our time.

EARLY EVENING

The evening started off with with a VIP Cocktail Reception sponsored by Fisker of Toronto, the  makers of World’s First Luxury Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle the Karma.

I happened to bump into Stacey McKenzie Canada’s Supermodel herself, of course Dan Levy of MTV and eTalk (he shoes’s were amazing) and of course my fave as we all know Evan Biddell fashion designer.

Lead Sponsor of the for the night was Hugo Boss they had this wonderful lovely safari installation in a foyer with a wonderful animal print dress and vintage trucks.

Refreshments the likes of Glenfiddich Milagro Tequila, Steam Whistle, Whistler Water, and Orangina were a flowing the hors d’oeuvres were deelissh, but I came for the entertaiment, I was  NOT disappointed.

What had me was this other room that was hosted by a this amazing bunny rabbit stripper, the room had four stages each with an equally outlandish performer.

From live carnival acts parading around, amidst the  rollerskaters, the drag queens strutting , it was non-stop excess.

The musical headliner was one of my favourites: Fritz Helder, who had a killer outfits designed by local designer and Project Runway alum, Evan Biddell. Fritz had the crowd cutting some rug with a lil taste of something new and my fave Lagerfeld remix. I looked past Fritz and realized that at the same time captivating us were his dancers decked out in hooded jacktets that zipped all the way up,  moving huge square blocks behind an piece of art if you will.

To say the least I had was a BALL, it was an amazing night filled wonderfully delightful people that came together for an extravaganza evening supporting for the arts. Can we say Power Balling!
