Angela Chen All-Access @ Taiwanfest

So on Friday nite I had the honour of being invited backstage to hang with Vancouver native Angela Chen during the opening nite gala for Telus Taiwanfest 2010 . For those who follow the Pinkster, you will remember I soooo fell in love with her F/W 2010 collection for her line Orange during LGFW. Clash: The Battle of Elegance showcased designers Jasper Huang and his “Grandma/Taiwan’s Floral Cloth” collection Chiui Hsu and her “Blue Hands et Earth Hands” collection, and of course Orange rounded out the trio.

Angela had to do it to me and open the show with those delight silk blouses (which reminded me of my mother getting dressed for the office circa ’80′s) just the right ”ummmff” in the sleeves. And paired with those lovely draped skirts and breathe… “Contrast” seems to be the cornerstone of her work and its seems to be a real reflection of her… I mean she’s born in Taiwan, grew up in Vancouver and schooled in NYC if thats not contrast then I don’t know what is.

She has a great melting pot of concrete chic with soft, natural organic undertones just like her environment. OMG!!! You know what gets me is the asymmetrical draping on the dresses, skirts and the double drape on the pants I love… its like a cape for pants. My faves as usual are her hand knitted pieces she does herself, and if you don’t believe, when I asked her what she never leaves home without besides the Crackberry she actually said her “yarn needles”!!!

When I asked what the vibe of her collection was she simply said “Minimal, feminine, sophisticated”. Just an FYI – you’ve accomplished that! For a young fresh line only two collections strong, Orange by Angela Chen is doing great for someone who wishes they did a little more homework on the “fashion biz”.
