Top 5: Movies About Summer Camp
3 Sep 2010As summer comes to an end, this is probably coming a little late, but in recognition of our last “regular” week of this hot, muggy mess of a holiday, here are our “Top 5 Movies About Summer Camp”:
5. Race For Your Life, Charlie Brown

Hell yes, I included a Charlie Brown movie. Even if you don’t agree with it being on this list, you can’t deny that this IS a totally awesome movie. It brings you back to a time of innocence, when frolicking in dirty lake water filled with leeches, sleeping on mite infested mattresses, and hiking through mosquito and black fly riddled forests, was just another blissful summer. And since Charlie Brown movies are totally essential for every holiday, it makes sense that there be one that we can enjoy during the summer holidays, as well!
Ahh! Fat camp! This Disney movie was totally essential for most people’s repertoire as a youth. It’s about a group of kids who go to their annual fat camp, only to find that it’s under new ownership – fitness-crazed Ben Stiller ownership, that is. The kids make it their mission to kick the asshole out and to get their fatty camp once again filled with doughnuts and cheeseburgers. Gross!
Not your “traditional” summer camp movie, this movie nevertheless DOES take place at camp – Crystal Lake to be exact. One of the most famous slasher horrors of all time, this movie is still f**king amazing even by today’s standards (please do NOT watch the re-make. for the love of god, do NOT watch it).
This movie takes place in the early 1980s and is pretty much about a bunch of different people (campers excluded) trying to get laid at summer camp. In the end, most achieve their goals and it features Christopher Meloni as hilarious, pseudo-straight, ‘Nam vet, cook. This movie IS pretty hilarious, but not QUITE as good as numero uno:
Three words: Bill F**king Murray. Anything with my lover boy is fantastic and this is one of his earliest classics. The movie is about a down and out camper Rudy and his womanizing counselor, Tripper. The movie kicks ass and is number one mostly because it’s my all-time favourite camp movie and yes, because Bill Murray is amazing.
