Labour of Love 2010 The Guvernment/Koolhaus
7 Sep 2010I read somewhere recently the Labour Day holiday was created in Toronto and apparantly goes way back to 1872 when a parade was staged in support of the Toronto Typographical Union’s strike for a 58-hour work-week.
The Labour Day holiday is a celebration of the economic and social achievements of workers who partake in the eight-hour day movement which in the past fought for eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation and eight hours for rest.
Sunday, Trance Nation’s ‘Labour of Love’ Labor Day celebration would see music lovers dancing on their feet for over 8 hours at The Guvernment Complex.
The line up was packed with acts spanning across the complex, where DJs local and international were housed under and outside the Guvernment.
At Koolhaus the line up included Above & Beyond who are in the running to be DJ Mag’s top 100 DJs, John Digweed, also in the running for Top 100 DJs Markus Shulz and Mark Oliver. At the Guvernment, Axwell, Afrojack, Kissy Sell Out and Toronto’s Manzone & Strong. At the Skybar, Morgan Page, The Junkies, Joee Coons, Nathan Barato and at the Drink, Ovi M, Jay Force, Time Patrick, YM and trance sweetheart Christina Cruise.
For the bass junkies, the Orange Room would provide more than expected, housing a selection of the DJ residents behind the new online podcast station Channel One Station featuring Marcus Visionary, Lush and Freeza Chin together with Saigon, Everfresh, Fabio and Die.
The outdoor tent complete with free massages for those in need was home for the night to LA based DJ/producer 12th Planet, Toronto’s Bombaman, from Vancouver Felix Cartel, together with Greg Cho and Meech.
After an action packed night, full of entertainment on all levels, i’m off to embrace my 8 hour nap. Hope the Labor Day Weekend was good to you.
