Now Hear This…Little Foot Long Foot
If you’ve ever been looking for music suitable for listening to while stompin’ around a smoke filled dive with lots of whiskey, I’ve got just the band for you! Little Foot Long Foot are throwing their hat in the ever-popular blues rock ring with their grit-heavy rock n’ roll, howling vocals and a tinge of country that’s guaranteed to make you dance into a sweaty frenzy.

You may recognize the former duo from their previously highly praised work, but Joan Smith and Isaac Klein are back and better than ever. With the release of their new album ‘Oh, Hell’ they’ve upped the ante with the addition of organist and vocalist Caitlin Dacey and enlisted the expertise of producer/hitmaker/awesome dude Ian Blurton (The Weakerthans, Huron).
On ‘Oh, Hell’, Little Foot Long Foot prove they have the blues chops to make them a stand-out amongst the many outfits that have emerged since The Black Keys seemingly paved the way for revisionists and revivalists alike. While Smith may lack the untouchable soul of Big Mama Thornton, she more than makes up for it with her versatility that at times can go from the wailing sultriness of Alison Mosshart to the subdued mellowness of Amber Webber. Dacey’s harmonies add emotional depth while complimenting Smith’s natural talent and the psychedelic properties of her organ build layers the electric guitar just can’t. Klein on the skins more than holds his own by laying down much more than a solid background groove. His licks are fast and his roll is smooth and the pounding drums beat straight to your soul.
Stand-out tracks: ‘Nothing’, ‘Kickface’, ‘She Looks to You’ and ‘Sensual Pounding’
Listen to ‘Sell Out’ below then grab a copy of their forthcoming album, digitally on June 7th or physically on June 28th via EMI. If I’ve piqued your curiosity enough, head to the Silver Dollar on June 4th for their CD release party. They’ll also be playing a couple of NXNE spots.
