20 Questions with Lindi Ortega

20 Questions with Lindi Ortega

Meet up and comer, Lindi Ortega. Her unique voice and token  red boots will be making an appearance at Dakota Tavern on the 7th to celebrate the release of her first full length album (signed with Last Gang Records). Her first EP received critical success, and we have a sneaking suspicion this Torontonian has much more in store for us in the future.

1. What is your dream of happiness?

Happiness itself is a dream and rarely a constant in the human existence. I am most happy when I am creating and performing. I dream about touring and bringing my music to the people and hopefully connecting with them on some level. Music is a universal language with which I hope to converse with as many people as possible. That is my dream of happiness.

2. Blonde or Brunette?

I think both are beautiful!

3. What is the quality you like most in a person?

Sense of humour

4. What do you fear most?

Fear itself. Letting fears get in the way of goals and aspirations. I do my best to not let that happen by facing my fears when I can.
5. 808s or 909s?

We talkin old school Roland drum machines?  I’ll go with 808s just for fun!

6. What’s your biggest regret?

no regrets

7. What’s your fav bar or club in the world?

I’m not a club type of gal. But any bar in Amsterdam suits me just fine.

8. What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Food, water, oxygen… everything else I can live without… although I’d be real sad without a singing voice,  a guitar, and some little red boots.

9. What are the 3 musicians dead or alive you’d like to see perform?

Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, and Dolly Parton

10. What is your favorite decade in music?

oh man .. how to chose… I love music that spans the 50-60′s-70s. I can’t pick a fave.. I guess I’d take a bit of 60′s mixed with a bit of early 70s. Is that allowed?

11. If you had to choose, would you rather go blind or deaf and why?

I’d rather go blind. I can’t imagine how I would get by without being able to hear music.

12. How old is too old?

For what exactly? To have babies? to wear hot pants?  If it’s with regards to making music, I don’t think there is such a thing as too old so long as you’re good at it! Look at some of the old blues cats still kickin it.. they are like fine wine that gets better with age!

13. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

I am of the moment.  But in a dream existence I will be touring with Willie Nelson, recording a record with Jack White, be the proud owner of 25 pairs of custom red cowboy boots… and hopefully I won’t have to worry about how to pay my rent and feed myself every month!

14. Who’s your hero?

Frida Kahlo

15. What’s your favourite colour?

Why Red.. of course! Naturally!

16. What song could you live without ever hearing again?

Friday by Rebecca Black

17. Metallica or Madonna?

zing… er.. MADONNICA!

18. What’s your most hated vice?

smoking. I use to smoke when I was stressed out but hate how it effects my voice and I always feel gross if I break down and have one.  Don’t take up smoking kids.. it’s a nasty habit.

19. Who is the most tragic figure in history?

Martin Luther King.. tragic in that his life was cut short.

20. What are the top three live shows you’ve seen in your life?

Band of Skulls, Jakob Dylan with Neko Case on backing vocals, and Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros.
