20 Questions with Alex Kazemi
Previously blogged about Alex Kazemi, this 17 year old from Vancouver had made quite a name for himself within the last year. Alex is the music editor for SUPERSUPER! Magazine (Vol.2 Issue 2 out now), runs http://duhmuzik.tumblr.com/, T. Mills asked him to smoke weed with him, interviewed Joe Jonas, oh and has a burning love for Aaliyah. I had a chance to FB chat with alex this week, and got the impression he’s gonna be making major head waves in the music industry in the VERY near future.
1. What is your dream of happiness?
This may be sound cheesy but I feel that I am living the dream that I have always wanted, I get to write about music and when I finish an interview, I have all of my pondering on musicians/producers I love at peace. I also hope to teach people about underground artists , that deserve to see the light because the under dogs are usually the rebels who are going against the grain and trying to bend, flip, modify popular sounds with a new formula, or rarely innovate a new sound. My ultimate dream (which is my life plan) is to go to post secondary and validate all of the work I am doing with education, then live in a city with lots of pizza and rain.
2. Blonde or Brunette?
I like blonde girls.
3. What is the quality you like most in a person?
I appreciate honesty, I think honesty is a quality, we all have but people are scared to enable it because of the temporary highs off secrets and lying and hurting others but personally, if you are going to be my friend (or anyone’s friend..) I expect you to be honest, it is such a waste of life and potential to lie. Complications are apart of life, making a mistake, is just more proof we are all only human and imperfect. Fess up, so you have no mess to clean up .?(o?0)?
4. What do you fear most?
Losing my photographic memory. I promise I am not crazy but I can revisit sounds and moving images (think videos/short .gifs) which probably makes me more nostalgic, than the usual person.
5. 808s or 909s?
808s and heartbreak, shout out to kanye.
6. What’s your biggest regret?
Leaking Music + Impulsive Conversations
7. What’s your fav bar or club in the world?
I have never been clubbing because I am only 17! I actually have no interest in going out a lot though, I think every minute/hour is a chance to inhale knowledge about music or watch films to escape from reality. I am better off alone on a saturday night doing the things I enjoy & love. I don’t really see myself dancing the night away to some brostep at a club in the future lol. I can’t wait till I am old enough to go to bar concerts though because with this age restriction on live performances, I have missed out on some pretty amazing shows.
8. What’s the one thing you can’t live without?
I can’t live without music because it consumes my entire life and without it, I am dead.
9. What are the 3 musicians dead or alive you’d like to see perform?
I would love to see Aaliyah live, even though she was quite shy about performing live and never actually went on tour but she would probably be an amazing performer, even if I could just be Timbaland for a second and listen to her in the booth, record the dry vocals to “Are You That Somebody?”.. Secondly, Kurt Cobain because I would love to be able to experience seeing him become alive on stage, and perform some of my favourite songs of all time! Even, if I could go into a time machine and see him play “Sliver” for 4 minutes. Last would be 2pac, because he is such a legend and shaped the rap scene in the 90s. He reps the west coast and I think it would be fun uniting with his audience.
10. What is your favorite decade in music?
1990s because it didn’t just stop at grunge (dear, tumblr users lol).. Trip-Hop, Brit Pop, West Coast/East Coast Rap and most of the pop-punk I listen to was recorded in the 90s. But I also love the 2000s pop/r&b and 60s/70s rock and 80s hardcore punk… :| :| :|
11. If you had to choose, would you rather go blind or deaf and why?
I would rather go blind, so I could have the ability to hear which would gateway to visualizing imagery. I can’t sacrifice sound.
12. How old is too old?
No age is too old.. I don’t really believe in the “17 forever” thing.. It is very disturbing and passe to me, maybe it was because I didn’t really have the ideal teenage experience but I think that there is so much more to life then youth. I look at youth as your time to evolve, make all of your mistakes now and prepare yourself for the rest of your life … but nothing more then that, sorry.
13. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?
happily married with a wife, living somewhere cold with a huge record collection.
14. Who’s your hero?
Colleen Nika
15. What’s your favourite colour?
Black
16. What song could you live without ever hearing again?
Anything by Bruno Mars & Karmin Covers, they both make me physically sick, the music is very unnecessary and the world was incredible without it.
17. Metallica or Madonna?
Free Earl!
18. What’s your most hated vice?
I hate being impulsive and I hate the regret I feel after doing or saying something I didn’t need or want to do. Lots of experience with that issue has taught me lots of lessons, that will hopefully make me grow and become the best person I can be.
20. What are the top two shows you’ve seen in your life?
n.e.r.d & blink-182
