Pinkie’s Fashion Fix
Hello, hello, hello – hope everyone is surviving the Good Ol’ Canada winter. No matter how cold the temperature is outside the fashion frontier is always smoking hot… so peep below for this week’s fashion fix.
TWICE AS NICE – The Big Pony x Spicebomb
I love me some perfume, so when an invite from the lovely people of L’oreal hit the inbox for an exclusive launch by two of my fave designers – Ralph Lauren x Viktor & Rolf – I was all over it.
The Big Pony Fragrance Collection for Women is the perfect collection of scents for the multi-faceted modern. The collection consist of four scents each embodying a different characteristic and aspect of femininity… from sporty, to sensual, stylish and even the free-spirited there’s something for everyone.
What better way to show your scent than throwing down on the ones & twos, and that’s what we did with some of the best female DJ’s in the city!! Can you say GIRL POWER!!
For all us ladies who swear by Viktor & Rolf- Flowerbomb, well Spicebomb for men is a must for the significant other or yourself. The fragrance is an explosive of scents -chilli, saffron, leather, tobacco, grapefruit and even pink peppercorn – can you say Spicebomb!! What I really enjoy about the scent is there is a bust of spice without losing the zesty-freshness. And ladies if the fragrance doesn’t tickle your fancy maybe Sean O’Pry will and what’s equally seductive is the bottle shaped as a grenade (and fully equipped with pull pin opening). The best way to experience these scents of Spicebomb is of course mixing drinks with the signature ingredients.
Miranda of Dose.ca, Moi, Daniella of BHD
BTW, huge thanks to L’Oreal for allowing me to find my hidden bartending and DJ skills, by far one of times I’ve had in a minute.
RUMORS CONFIRMED FDCC NAMES NEW SPONSOR
For sometime now talk around the fashion water-cooler has been that FDCC – Toronto Fashion Week was dumping LG (or vice-versa) as its main sponsor. Last week at the Royal Conservatory FDCC announced that LG would no longer be its title sponsor for Fashion Week, but (wait for it) MasterCard would be filling the slot. And our beloved Fashion Week has known been renamed “World MasterCard Fashion Week Toronto”. I know I was not expecting that at all… when I first heard the rumor, I for sure thought Mercedes Benz (guess I was wrong).
Robin Kay & Councillor Michael Thompson
In case you’re wondering about the makeup end of things L’Oréal is no longer on the bill, they have been replaced by inferior Maybelline New York (don’t feel so bad for L’Oréal they own Maybelline). BTW word on the street is Redken is the new hair sponsor for Fashion Week as well… they say a lil change will do you good, let’s hope this is the case.
TOTEM POLE CHANGES AT FLARE & FASHION MAGAZINE
If you follow the Canadian fashion magazine circuit (the small one it is) you may have heard of some of shifting taking place at some of key players in the game. So according to some tweets I saw FLARE promoted a bunch of interns and did a bit of internal switch-a-roo. While over at FASHION Susie Sheffman has jumped ship to Dealuxe, even though she will remain editor-in-large and Caitlan Moneta is now Market Editor. Once again let’s wait and see.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Schick Hydro Silk Razor
I’m a lazy type of lady, I mean I cringe at thought of having to shave my legs (I wax ’cause I’m that lazy). So when the Schick Canada asked me to take the new Schick Hydro Silk out for a test I figured I’m a tough cookie so why not.
The Schick Hyrdo Silk boast many things, so I figured the best way to rate and review this product was to tackle all it’s claims.
1. Water-activated moisturizing serum hydrates throughout each shave.
” We all know the act of shaving is known to strip skin moisture and sometimes the skin itself so when a “razor” claims to moisturize we really wonder. After activating the serum underwater it became slimy and slick, and I began to shave with just the serum. After several strokes of the razor as lubricating and hydrating as the serum was I felt the need for the lather of shaving gel as I felt a slight irritation.” (o.5 out of 1)
2. Hydro Silk is the first Schick 5 curve-sensing blade razor designed for women.
“I mean five blades is quiet a stack so I expected nothing but a close shave and that was exactly what I got!!” (1 out of 1)
3. Unique Skin Guards help protect skin from irritation
“I have to be honest, I think the invention of Skin Guards on the top of each blade–to smooth the skin while shaving wasn’t by one of the biggest inventions of the year. I mean I really didn’t notice, but it if helps with that close shave I did enjoy – well who am I to complain.” (1 out of 1)
4. Compact oval cartridge shape for closeness and hydration in all zones.
“Apparently all us ladies were up in arms about maneuverability of a razor and it reaching all the nooks and arches. Though, I did notice and appreciate the compact design… I don’t feel it did much to make the razor more maneuverable around contours.” (0.5 out of 1)
5. Beautiful, ergonomic and soft aqueous handle.
“Beautiful look, and I enjoyed the gel handle… but that was it really. I didn’t really notice anything that set the design apart or maybe far superior than others.” (0.5 out of 1)
“Overall I had a great smooth shave without a nick… enjoyed the close shave and the easy use of razor. Can I confirm all the fancy claims not too sure, but you will get a close, smooth shave.” (3.5 out of 5)
