20 Questions with Lauren Devine

Lauren Devine is a New York City-based composite of tan and icy lilac; a pop vocalist, designer and enthusiast. The pop music project is conceived by Lauren Devine, produced by Nick Weiss of Teengirl Fantasy.  Lauren met Nick through tons of mutual Oberlin music people living in NY and they bonded over their love for overpriced clubs with $20 covers.  Coincidentally they share the same birthday! Devine’s tracks features songwriting by Cody Critcheloe of Ssion, Laurel Halo, Kevin McGarry, and Ryan Trecartin.  For the past six years, she has been contemplating textures and naming colors for major fashion brands. Devine has worked with DIS magazine, K48, Pâté magazine, Ryan Trecartin for W, PS1 and MAD Museums, and with Mirror Mirror in performance and video.

Don’t expect an EP or an album to come anytime soon from Devine, she prefers singles for clubs and ringtones. 1.What is your dream of happiness?

A slightly too hot beach day with a breeze, a spicy veggie juice, and body oil.

2.Blonde or Brunette?

Sharon Stone ashy blonde.

3. What is the quality you like most in a person?

Their inquisitiveness. and upper arms.

4. What do you fear most?

Being bored and uninspired

IDK, ask my producer

6. What’s your biggest regret?

The typos in my last drunk tweet.

7. What’s your fave bar or club in the world?

The old tranny party at Club Remix next to World Trade Center and City Club in Detroit, best goth club ever.

8. What’s the one thing you can’t live without?

The ocean! If we are separated for over a week I start to get depressed.

9. What are the 3 musicians dead or alive you’d like to see perform?

Krysta Now, Sade, and Julee Cruise. On the same bill.

10. What is your favorite decade in music?

10 years?! too broad! maybe I’m just too caught up in ‘now’ right now….I do have a certain soft spot for 1994 though. I’d love to unleash my grunge vocals on the world soon.

11. Would you rather go blind or deaf and why?

Definitely going to have to choose deaf. I’m such a visually sensitive person that I would have no clue what was going on if I couldn’t see. At least I could take visual clues and feel vibrations if I had my sight.

12. How old is too old? mentally or physically?

I don’t know that I’ve seen the limits yet. I know several people in my peer group that plan on living for at least 200 years.

13. Where do you see yourself in 15 years?

I just realized what age I’ll be in 15 years and got chills! Who knows where I’ll be, but I hope it’s warm and has a lot of alternative transportation options. It would also be great if we all never had to sleep again 15 years from now.

14. Who’s your hero?

Anyone who is currently proudly rocking a tribal tatt!

15. What’s your favourite colour?

Slightly opalescent icy lilac. Looks so good on tan skin.

16. What song could you live without ever hearing again?

Rihanna- we found love. Two summers of that song is a bit long and they play it every time I’m in my local veggie stand /juice bar.

17. Metallica or Madonna?

Meh.

18. What’s your most hated vice?

Excuse making. You’ll rarely hear one from me.

19. Who is the most tragic figure in history?

Is Anna Nicole Smith too obvi? Her final days are haunting and upsetting.

20. What are the top three live shows you’ve seen in your life?

Hope Sandoval at ATP 2 summers ago, Britney Spears Circus tour, Ciara at South Street Seaport last summer. I love my lady vocalists and entertainers <3
