Fall Playlist: MS MR, Wild Belle and Elle King
Hot new bands are a dime a dozen, and few make it past the Top 50 list on Hypem. These bands, however, are ones we see going far and will make a welcome addition to your Fall playlist. New leaf, new beats.
MS MR
MS MR made a mark early this summer with their track Hurricane, and they’re still going strong. They’re a perfect addition to your playlist this month, especially on All Hallow’s Eve – their beats are dark and foreboding – with allusions to Doo Wop and 50′s R&B. True to their experimental style, MS MR released their EP song by song on their amazing Tumblr page, a site they say has been a big inspiration, “It’s no secret we have something of a sweet spot for Tumblr. We like to think of it as a cultural collage and feel like it’s the perfect platform for what we want to present with this EP. It has been such an incredible source of inspiration and support, and so in return we wanted to first share the music with the very community that helped create its visual identity. Ever since we started this project, we’ve been interested in exploring how music transcends and enhances art in all mediums; by releasing Candy Bar Creep Show on Tumblr, we were free to present each song in a larger mixed media context, giving each song the opportunity to have its own identity and room to breathe and grow.”
Throughout the staggered release of their EP this summer, MS MR invited users to submit remixes of the tracks. Favorites will be included in their official album campaign next year.
Their videos are amazing compilations of footage ranging from vintage wedding ceremonies, 80′s commercials and natural disasters, often within quick succession. In short – they’re the real deal.

Wild Belle
A brother sister duo hailing from Chicago, Wild Belle is a refreshing antidote to the impending cold front. Their West African and reggae infused beats are perfectly complimented by Natalie’s unstudied and enthralling vocals. They also have an awesome Tumblr page (administered by Natalie – hence all the hunks) and are currently touring with Tennis.
Elle King
This girl is going to be compared to Adele ad nauseaum, probably preceded with words like ‘Gritty’ and ‘Hipster’ (she has tattoos), but her voice has a character of its own, and she has strong potential to be a household name in the months to come. Get her single ‘Playing for Keeps’ here.
