I’ve been getting my nails done since high school. When I was 16 I would trek up to Eglinton West to a little Vietnamese-run salon that was packed to the gills with ghetto girls, their men and sometimes their babies. The place smelled of acetone and the best airbrusher (it was ALL about air brushing then) was a guy who chain smoked in the back. Back then I would get long square-shaped acrylics with Greek-wedding white airbrushed french tips and  an airbrushed flower with a pink rhinestone on the ring fingers of each hand and a pierced ring on at least one pinky; gah-sometimes with a gold Playboy bunny hanging from it. There was some serious 90s status in those nails, and I LOVED going up there every two weeks. I’d always wear my best fur trimmed powder blue suede jacket and have my hair done. I never wanted to look gnarly in front of those gold-teethed ghetto girls with curly nails.

For a long time,  I have considered myself something of an expert on Brazilian waxes. I’ve been submitting myself  almost religiously, once a month, for over seven years.

If you haven’t noticed, Queen West has turned into quite the looker these days.

But the development period that the University/Spadina corridor has undergone over the last decade has come with many losses of equal significance. Lavish & Squalor aside, independent shops like Vice and Buckler have completely disappeared. Gorilla Monsoon (not that anyone I know ever hungout there) is now a wasteland for corporate hamburger juice, and in general, nothing all that hip has happened around that space since the Bombshelter changed its name.

Welcome back to another scorching week on the fashion frontier. Hold on to your Birkins and sit back for the 411 on all the previews, parties, shows, and mishaps.

When I lived in Korea, I would often see women with only one or two nails painted and the rest left plain, when I finally let my curiosity get the best of me and mustered up the courage to ask a woman why she only had one nail painted, she smiled widely, threw her hands in the air and announced “NO TIME!”

Along with the light breezes and tight-less outfits this season, springtime also brings along the perfect opportunity for change. You know that friend we all have with the perfect eyelashes, who puts on one coat of just about any mascara and her lashes pop and curl to perfection? Yeah, I can’t stand her either.

As for the rest of us normal-lash-challenged ladies, we tend to need to use the dreaded tool all men turn their heads in confusion at called, the eyelash curler. You know what this thing looks like, it’s awkward to pack and never really does the job just right (I’m talking the 90 degree effect that makes you look like an absolute moron and ends up getting tiny mascara dots all over your upper lid).

So I’ve survived another fashion week, which thanks to Mother Nature it wasn’t that bad because the weather was ooh soo beautiful… one day I wore wedges and a maxi dress, just to find myself wearing Mukluks today. Good ol’ Canadian weather!! As usual here’s another fashion fix…

Alexander McQueen x PUMA

We all know how I love me some collabos… So when Alexander McQueen (Lord, rest his soul) and PUMA decide to become chums I’m all for it – I mean sneakers designed by a fashion God, where can we go wrong. Last week I got a chance to peep these delights at The Spoke Club when PUMA threw a Fall/Winter 2012 “Pop-up Closet”.

Hands down the best part Fashion Week is getting to see new and old faces, the outlandish fashions and of course the parties. Peep some of the goodies from the week!!!
