Interview with Juno Nominee Grahmzilla

Interview with Juno Nominee Grahmzilla

“I didn’t really think it was that big of a deal until my family got in touch with me and they were losing their minds,” says Grahmzilla of his Juno nomination for Dance Recording of the Year as one half of dance rap act, Thunderheist. The nomination is a fitting bookend to the fantastic run that Thunderheist (Graham Bertie with partner Isis Salam) had in 2009. They have recently decided to take a break from their hectic touring schedule to pursue solo interests. He’s happy for his time in the band and credits it with helping him hone his chops...

Thunderheist: Thunderstorm

Thunderheist: Thunderstorm

A mad mishmash of electro/hip-hop/synthy success, Toronto/MTL duo Thunderheist blew through The Mod Club on Thursday night. The crowd was assorted in attendees, pretty young things and party people, all equally excited and energetic as they eagerly awaited the performance. Singer Isis stepped out donning the marvelous Greta Constantine seat belt-esque corset top and shiny skinnies, aura ablaze with fabulousness. Her casual banter immediately connected the audience and developed a presence of knowingness and cool familiarity. Smooth vox and MC skills brought TH's debut album to live life, causing a sweaty stir. The venue's...

Weekend What’s Good: August 14-16 2009

Finally Mr. Sun graced us with his presence this weekend, so what better way to show our appreciation than hittin' the streets and clubs of our lovely city? Here's our weekend roundup. RIP RANDOMLAND @ MOD CLUB--Friday August 14, 2009 First up on the weekend tour was RIP Randomland. As y'all may know, Randomland Fridays @ Circa is no more, sad I know (moment of silence). So in true Randomland rando-ness fashion, they had one last rumble at The Mod Club. . Beach balls, bubbles galore, balloons, lazers...rave. Despite feelin' a lil bummed 'cause the...

Rain On Me Thunderheist

Rain On Me Thunderheist

If Thursday night’s show at The Phoenix was any indicator, then Thunderheist definitely knows how to party. The rain didn’t stop the Toronto electro-rap duo’s legions of fans from descending on the Sherbourne St. hotspot that night. In fact, the soaked clothing and the potential hair frizz one could get from the rain were well worth it. We are talking about Thunderheist, after all. By the time Isis and Grahm Zilla came on around 11 p.m. headlining the 17th anniversary Exclaim! tour, the crowd of mainly 20-somethings were already pumped up thanks to locally grown Dougie Boom and Halifax's

Listen to Thunderheist. Listen to Thunderheist Live.

Listen to Thunderheist. Listen to Thunderheist Live.

Thunderheist WHUD UP. Hearing Thunderheist in our offices is like hearing downtown Toronto drivers honking; ITS CONSTANT AND LOUD. Heck yes we are fans of this dynamic duo, but now a days who isn’t? They are taking over the world and duh that’s a really great thing! Usually the only reason people tune into MTV is to watch The Hills. STOP IT. Tune into MTV for something WAY BETTER. This Wednesday April 29th,  Thunderheist will be on MTV LIVE. Fill your brain with something worth your time! And when...

MSTRKRFT On Jimmy Kimmel

MSTRKRFT On Jimmy Kimmel

3 classy cannucks and 1 gauche yank. MSTRKRFT performed "Bounce" on Jimmy Kimmel live last night! Our girl, Isis from Thunderheist was dashing in a bob haircut and mini dress, Jesse Keeler and Al P did all the parts live and N.O.R.E checked his blackberry over and over while dragging his feet through his part. Jimmy Kimmel called  his ass out on it too. More proof that money doesn't buy class. Big ups to Toronto in the house!

5 Minutes with Isis Salem of Thunderheist

5 Minutes with Isis Salem of Thunderheist

The female star of Thunderheist has had a hectic year including local performances at Rock Star Hotel (at The Gladstone, during the MMVAs), The Beats,Breaks and Culture festival (check out our review of the fest here) at the Harbourfront and upcoming performance at The Virgin Festival on Saturday September 6th (yes this Saturday) in the Bacardi B-Live Tent, among Let's Go to War and Nasty Nav . Isis took a little time out of her crazy schedule to chat with me about fame, fortune and...

Beats, Breaks and Culture @ Harborfront

Beats, Breaks and Culture @ Harborfront

The past 2 days was a whirlwind of music, parties and dancing. Yesterday (the 4th) was Ladytron and tonight was Thunderheist and then Crystal Castles. All 3 FREE performances blew me out of the park: Ladytron had the trippy beat, Thunderheist had the dope rhymes and Cryastal Castles had the rhythym and effects. So Friday the 4th was the Ladytron concert on Harbourfront's Sirius stage. A bunch of us arrived to a massive crowd with a lot of energy. First of all, making our way to the front was an ordeal, but wearing heels and smiling nicely made it easier. The way...
